Legal Industry Salary & HR Issues Survey

The ALPMA Legal Industry Salary & HR Issues survey provides comprehensive, independent data on actual salaries paid for up to 65+ legal, management and support roles at Australian and New Zealand law firms so that you can compare your compensation strategy with like firms. As well as covering the current issues in HR, benefits, bonuses, staffing profiles, salary data, anticipated salary increases and recruitment intentions, this year’s survey was expanded to include more information on bonuses paid and parental leave.

2018 New Zealand Salary Survey results - now available!

2018 Australian Salary Survey results - stay tuned. Results will be sent to participants by 20 April 2018.

Thanks to the 400 firms across Australia and New Zealand who participated in the survey this year.

Everyone who completes the survey receives a complimentary copy of the Australian or New Zealand research report. This report costs $550 for non-participating ALPMA members, or $2,200 for non-members (including GST) and includes:

  • Details of salaries paid for up to 65+ legal, managerial and administrative positions at law firms across Australia and New Zealand - broken down by location and size of firm
  • Salary data for fee earners by area of practice (Australian survey)
  • information on employments benefits and bonuses, including bonus types and bonuses paid by role
  • the staffing mix of part-time, contract, casual and full-time workers employed at law firms
  • key staffing ratios to measure firm productivity and performance
  • anticipated salary increases and law firm recruitment intentions for the next 12 months
  • the key HR issues and challenges facing law firms in 2018
  • diversity and inclusion perceptions, programs and plans.
  • Information on parental leave entitlements.

Privacy

Survey Matters has been engaged to conduct the survey on behalf of ALPMA, to ensure independence and confidentiality of data. Survey Matters is a member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS) and is bound by the AMSRS Code of Professional Behaviour and the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.

All data submitted to this survey will be held as strictly confidential and used for the sole purpose of compiling the survey report for participating firms. Individual responses will not be identified; the information you provide will be consolidated with that provided by other industry participants and provided to ALPMA in aggregate only. All data you provide will be de-identified immediately following the provision of results to ALPMA.
