Event Overview

Working in the legal profession is a rewarding and fulfilling career but it requires us to keep wellbeing and resilience top of mind in order to perform well, enjoy our work and have a sustainable career. This will be an informative and practical session hearing from a panel of young lawyers of their experiences, challenges and achievements.

Shannon McMenamin, Solicitor, Clelands Lawyers

Shannon McMenamin was admitted to practice in November 2016 and works as a solicitor at Clelands Lawyers. Practising mainly in commercial dispute resolution and litigation, she has experience in matters ranging from debt recovery claims to large building disputes, and is also gaining knowledge in the area of Wills & Estates and Estate Litigation. Shannon is a committee member and the immediate past Secretary of the Women Lawyers Association of SA, a member of the Women Lawyers Committee of the Law Society, and is passionate about mental health and flexible work practices. In her spare time, Shannon plays the violin and loves walking her dog, an Irish Setter named “Joy”.
Sarah Vinall, Senior Associate, Mellor Olsson Lawyers
Sarah Vinall is a Senior Associate at Mellor Olsson Lawyers where she has specialised in the area of personal injuries, including motor vehicle accident, medical negligence and public liability claims, for more than 10 years. She has a special interest and considerable experience working with clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries.

She is the South Australian President of the Australia Lawyers Alliance, a board member of the Litigation Assistance Fund and a member of the Law Society Accident Compensation Committee. Sarah was also recognised in the latest Doyles Guide of leading Plaintiff-focused Motor Vehicle Accident and Public Liability South Australian lawyers.
Victoria Gilliland, Solicitor, Mellor Olsson Lawyers
Victoria joined Mellor Olsson in 2015 and has experience in a wide range of commercial and civil litigation matters. This includes debt recovery, insurance, building and contract disputes in both State and Federal jurisdictions. She works extensively in the area of estate litigation, as well as the resolution of trust and farming disputes. Victoria regularly appears in the Supreme, District and Magistrates’ Courts.

Victoria is a member of the Law Society Council and the Succession Law Committee for the Law Society.

In addition to her Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Adelaide, Victoria has a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) in Psychology and a PhD in Psychology.
Jonathon Wenham, Lawyer, Piper Alderman

Jon Wenham has worked for Piper Alderman since his final year of law school, and was admitted as a lawyer in October 2016.  Jon came to Piper Alderman after he was awarded the inaugural Bob Piper Scholarship. His primary area of practice is corporate and transactional tax law, but the nature of the Adelaide market has contributed to him also acquiring experience in general commercial law.


Jon is a member of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee of the Law Society of SA, and also treasurer of the South Australian committee of the Pinnacle Foundation. Committed to working for a more equal, inclusive, and supportive society, he is passionate about supporting good mental health in the workplace as both an important part of that initiative and a standalone goal.
